Moata Carbon Portal
Future-ready cities for south-east Asia

Towards net-zero in New Zealand

Designed for infrastructure projects, our Moata Carbon Portal is the industry’s first BIM-enabled carbon calculator. It sits within our Moata digital platform, which hosts a range of solutions that add visualisation and data-crunching power to enable better decision making through access to richer information. The Carbon Portal allows the examination of both construction and operational scenarios to identify their carbon impact. It incorporates the most comprehensive carbon data possible, being continually updated as new emissions factors are published and taking account of local market variations. It also builds on our decade of work building a library of BIM assets tagged with carbon data. In New Zealand we are using the Carbon Portal to help public bodies meet a tough deadline for public sector carbon neutrality by 2025. Not only are we directly showing Auckland Council, Watercare and Transpower how to reduce their capital and operational carbon, but the digital assets our team have built them are being freely shared with other councils and utilities across New Zealand, accelerating environmental improvement nationwide. “There’s a collaborative spirit,” says Jonny Breen, Mott MacDonald’s principal carbon consultant in New Zealand. “We’re working with organisations that want to achieve their own carbon targets as well as share how they achieved these benefits.”
